WEBSITE, PRODUCT AND RANGE REVIEW

BURBERRY.COM is the official home of all things Burberry – menswear and womenswear, and includes an almost full collection of all of their lines; Burberry Prorsum, Burberry London and Burberry Brit.

The site is well organised for someone who understands the difference between each collection, but just in case you don’t:

BURBERRY PRORSUM: The brand’s highly respected ‘runway’ collection which draws inspiration from the Burberry archives and is the Burberry House’s most trend driven collection. BURBERRY PRORSUM is all made in Italy, including the macs.

BURBERRY LONDON: The ‘classic’ Burberry line, with much of the trench coats (macs) still made in England, (if so, it will say inside the label) these are the coats and checked scarves we most readily associate with the Burberry brand. This collection suits the modern businessman and classic dresser, no matter what his age. The quality is superb. Some of the collection also takes inspiration from the more European feeling ‘Prorsum’ lines, but watered down to accomodate the tastes of a more classic dresser.

BURBERRY BRIT: This is the most youthful line, and of course, the most affordable. The collection still features trench coats but the cuts tend to be a little more trend-led, and the collection tends to be made in the Far East, making the clothes cheaper. (This is not a reflection on quality in this instance though).

NEW!

BURBERRY BESPOKE: This is almost exactly what it says it is: the enthusiasts opportunity to build his (or her) own Burberry trench coat, almost entirely from scratch.

For more information on Burberry Bespoke, please read our blog where one of the MilanStyle team explains the process of designing and ordering your own trench coat using the new app, and with photographs of the final result.

If you are thinking of getting your own trench coat, you may also be interested in the history of the Burberry trench coat.

Fans of Burberry will also of course be familiar with their collaboration with The Sartorialist, which created ‘The Art of the Trench Coat’ website featuring photos of ‘real people’ wearing their Burberry mac on the streets of the world’s biggest cities.

ORDER PROCESS

The order process is very straightforward and you can get the items delivered to your home or office address, which is very handy.

We are also impressed with the option of ‘Click to Chat’ which means that you use a sort of MSN / Skype style chat function to talk to one of their customer service operatives, if you have any questions, without needing to use a call centre. This is a really nice feature, and seems to be open quite late too, so you can even talk to them late in the evening.

OVERALL

Rating: ★★★☆☆

BURBERRY.COM is one of the leading luxury brand online shopping websites.

They have a very good range of their own lines, although surprisingly, some of the sizing options are not complete, so you may find it more useful to shop through our other Burberry stockists if you find your size out of stock.

We do appreciate that the site and customer service of the online store is very good though and the fact that they offer affordable international shipping is also something they should be commended for. More luxury brands should follow this example.

A bit dissappointed…

However, last year (Christmas 2010 / January 2011) several of the MilanStyle team were a bit disappointed to see BURBERRY.com did not go on sale. So for those of us who like to pick up a few bargains in the end of season January and July sales you would otherwise find on other online Burberry stockists such as Luisaviaroma, Matches Fashion or MR. PORTER you will probably be quite annoyed to learn that option is not available – obviously not everyone lives near Bond Street or Regent Street to be able to visit their stores for the sales.

If there were free postage options for UK shoppers, and end of season sales were available for online shoppers too, we would happily give BURBERRY.COM 4*.
